October feedback

You listen attentively and take notes but need to translate this to your written work and edit posts on your web-log

Deadline of Friday 16th October to get two assignments completed, neither of which are pass standard as yet.

Follow up work during the lesson with extended learning activities.

All work is assessed through this digital portfolio and as yet there is little here to mark.

You began late but need to make more effort to catch up.

Development of editing.

 Apocalypse Now.

In the opening sequence of the 1979 movie Apocalypse Now, the viewer is shown a selection of shots that have been dissolved together. Firstly we are shown a black screen with only the sound of a helicopter that is in the distance. The black screen fades into
MTV Style Editing (post-classical editing).

In the opening scene of City Of God the " chicken chase" features a series of MTV style editing. To some the edit can be seen to cause the effect of strobe lighting. the edits are quick and sometimes hard to follow. This style of editing emphasizes location, mood and feeling over character and plot development.
In  the first few seconds of the opening scene we see a shot of a boy holding a camera. In this shot the transitions from black involve a white flash that the audience sees coming from the camera. The shot then widens from a close up where we can see the boy is actually standing in a jail cell with the title. This could be seen to the audience as foreshadowing for the plot of the film.

This shot shows how the editor uses different views. This shot of the chicken watching its surroundings encourages the audience to do the same and watch whats going on around the scene.
This forces the audience to focus on the footage even if the style of editing confuses them, meaning they are more likely to pay attention the to what is happening ultimately gaining the interest of the audience.
